With funding from the European Commission-Erasmus+ programme and the support of the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M), we carry out and promote interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach on EU affairs.
The European Union (EU) is currently facing immense challenges, ranging from the financial difficulties brought about by Covid-19, the war, the undermining of the rule of law and democracy, and questions of European solidarity that the asylum crisis has provoked. Digital and green transition the EU is facing with important consequences for coherence of our societies. Integral solutions to such challenges can only be found if the introspective disciplinary tendencies are overcome and if EU policy-making is assessed and developed against the broader needs of the European society, the polity, the law and the market. The Chair and its team members and collaborators aim to create a spirit of interdisciplinarity by establishing and consolidating new interdisciplinary policy and research-based activities and teaching courses that complement the traditional political science methods of teaching EU institutions and policy-making.

The Action pursues three objectives
1

To strengthen and promote excellence in teaching and research in EU governance, by setting up novel courses and policy and research-based initiatives that combine the deployment of interdisciplinary approaches and methods from a range of disciplines like political science, law, sociology, economics, etc. These activities successfully optimize the acquisition of interdisciplinary knowledge, skills and competences to students and nurture a new generation of policy experts and researchers in the field of EU studies.
2

To foster and consolidate the dialogue between scholars, stakeholders and policymakers to generate knowledge that assist EU policy-making to find innovative integral solutions to the current European challenges:
The Chair disseminates teaching and research outputs with the main aim of offering an in-depth understanding of current challenges faced by the EU. This is done by highlighting the significance of political, legal, sociological and economic dynamics in recent developments relating to, among others, the EU elections, the Democracy and Rule of Law, Migration, Climate Change, and Economic Governance. The Chair, in collaboration with the students and youth from pro-European associations, increases awareness and impact of this academic knowledge to diverse audiences by actively organizing and participating in national and international events and strengthening collaboration with key academic and policy-making institutions in Spain and throughout Europe.
3

To bring the EU closer to the Spanish and European public and the youth:
PROMETHEUS cooperate with traditional and digital journalistic and social media platforms (e.g. El Confidencial, UC3M Sonora, etc.) to disseminate the content of public talks and other EU-related information crucial to increase awareness of EU current affairs among the public in general, and the youth in particular. Accordingly, the chair promotes the active involvement of PROMETHEUS students and young voices in the public debate. In this regard, student and youth pro-european associations (DEMOS, AUGE, JEF, BETA, Equipo Europa and ANUDI – Asociación para las Naciones Unidas y Derecho Internacional) assist the action to connect and enhance the impact in a younger audience.
The PromethEUs action has received a three year funding from the Jean Monnet Erasmus+ Programmet:
